Secretary Message

Shariq Ahmed

Ever since, I took over the charge of Law Secretary, Sindh, I have come to terms with the fact that Sindh, despite its capacity constraints, is the leading province in terms of legislative initiatives undertaken by the Provincial Assembly and the Law Department under the rubrics of Human Rights, Women and Social sector development. Ironically, many initiatives taken by Sindh Government are not projected positively and lack of awareness and ignorance about the existing laws causes despondency and consternation among the populace and the civil society. To nip this phenomena in its bud, the Law Department signed a MoU with German Pakistan Chamber of Commerce & Industry to organise various seminars and capacity building measures for different sections of the civil society and now the publication of this ‘Newsletter’ is also the step in the same direction. I hope this initiative of portraying the factual and positive image though bridging the gaps between the Law Department and various segments of the civil society will fill the void and create awareness about various enactments and legislation undertaken by the Sindh Government. I am grateful to the Chief Minister, Law Minister and Chief Secretary for their support on venous initiatives of the Law Department.
